Who is he writing for? Analyse the text according to the communication model (sender/text/channel/receiver).
Scott was an explorer from Great Britain and the people back in his country may have been interested in what happened to Scott and his team, and if they had beaten the americans. So they will probably read what Scott wrote about their journey - and especially what happened to them since they never got home. And that make the british people the receivers and Scott the sender. When Scott died he didn't know who would find his journal, or if anybody even would. Therefor he didn't know what channel he sent it to, but it was probably a new team who were send out to look after Scott and his team. The text is a journal, and probably written with the purpose to inform people back in Great Britain about how they fought to the end, and died with honor.
